Abstract

Wireless sensor networks have gained more attention from researchers because their applications have significantly increased over vast areas such as smart homes, military surveillance, environment monitoring, agriculture, industrial automation, traffic management, disaster detection etc. These applications demand melioration of the currently available protocols and circumstantial parameters. Some prominent parameters are energy consumption and network lifetime which play the key role in every application. This survey paper reviews Genetic Algorithm based energy optimization in all functional stages of a wireless sensor network including node deployment, network coverage, clustering, routing and detection of attacks.
